My name is Mikshita and my shop is called Small Special Moments, which I run with Jason.
We sell message in a bottle for all occasions.

How long have you been selling on Etsy?

I set up the Etsy shop in October 2016. The shop started because my other half and I wanted something unique as our wedding invites. I made each wedding invite as a message in a bottle and our friends/family loved the idea.
We then decided to do some Christmas bottles to see if they would sell at fairs or on Etsy. We got a brilliant response and customers loved how unique they were. They loved how each one could be customised according to their Christmas themes.
The first product we sold was to a couple who wanted his and hers Christmas keepsakes for their tree. It had a sweet message with mini gold and silver stars. They loved the bottles so much that they placed 3 more orders after that.

What’s been the biggest hurdle for you to overcome?

My biggest hurdle to overcome is getting the tags and titles right to be able to get seen. It is a very saturated market and I do believe I have a good product but to get that seen is something I have to work on.

Describe a typical day?

My alarm goes off at 5.50 every morning. I don’t have children but I am a nanny to 2 little monkeys. I start work with them at 8am but aim to get into work for 7/7.15 so I can work on my shop. If I have orders then I try complete those before working on tags/titles or just doing a bit of research.
I work as a nanny for 8-6 So it’s a full on day and as I am employed by someone I don’t have the option of sitting down to complete some more orders while children are asleep.
I get home for 7pm and if I have a big order then I start working on these till they’re complete. In between that I have a little Bengal cat who’s full of energy and lives for play.
Occasionally I’ll get a whack on my leg when he loses patience with me and wants me to play with him! Sometimes he likes to run away with my stock or just sit at the table watching me (and playing with sticky tape)

Where would you like to be a year from now?

A year from now I’d like my shop to be a part time job so I can look to settle down and work less than 50hours per week. I’d like to add lots of new products to the shop so we can take more orders for wedding invites and favours.
This is the fourth in a series of 60-second interviews with Etsy shop owners. If you’d like to be interviewed, please send a short email to rob@geekprofane.com with your name and etsy shop link.
